Malibun laitamilla sijaitseva Getty Villa oli yksi Kalifornian reissumme kohokohdista. Öljypohatta J. Paul Gettyn rakennuttama roomalaishenkinen huvilamuseo sopii paitsi valokuvaajille, myös antiikin Kreikan tai Rooman historiasta kiinnostuneille lomalaisille. Itse keskityin, historian lehtien havinan sijasta, ihastelemaan kauniiden pylväiden reunustamaa verantaa sekä näyttävin mosaiikkilaatoin koristeltuja lattioita.
Getty Villa, situated in the outer neighbourhoods of Malibu, was one of the highlights of our trip in California. The Roman villa, also functioning as a museum, was built by an oil tycoon named J. Paul Getty, and is a fitting choice both for a vacationer interested in the ancient histories of Southern Europe and a photographer. I, myself, was more focused on admiring the beautiful veranda as well as the floors decorated with the prettiest mosaic tiles.

Getty Villassa vaikutti vierailevan paljon amerikkalaisia turisteja, joita Rooman valtakunnan historia vaikutti erityisesti kiinnostavan. Itsekin pidän antiikin historiaa kiinnostavana myöskin, mutta perehdyn siihen mieluummin paikan päällä Italiassa tai muualla Etelä-Euroopassa, en Jenkeissä reissatessani. Tämän sanottuani suosittelen kuitenkin vierailemaan upeassa Getty Villassa jo pelkästään paikan esteettisenkin arvon vuoksi. Oikein mukavaa maanantaita sinne ruutujen taakse!
In the Getty Villa, there seemed to be lots of American tourists who were there first and foremost studying history. I find the history of the Roman era very interesting, too, but prefer familiarizing myself with it in Italy or elsewhere in the Southern Europe – not when I’m vacationing in the USA. That said, I’d definitely recommend visiting Getty Villa, if not for the historic aspect, than at least for the aesthetic value of the estate. Have a great Monday folks!
