Jouluaattona herättiin (liian) myöhään, vasta puoli kymmenen maissa. Ennen autoon hyppäämistä oli edessä kaikkien aikojen pikapakkaus, josta lopulta suoriuduttiinkin aika tehokkaasti. Edessä oli kolme pyhäpäivää ja matkan varrella neljä eri etappia.
On Christmas morning, we woke up (too) late as it was already half past nine as the alarm went off. Before jumping in the car, it was time for the most effecient packing ever. After getting all of our stuff together, we left for our Christmast roadtrip having four different destinations on our way.
M:n suvun kanssa syötiin herkullinen joululounas ennen kuin jatkoimme matkaa äitini luokse. Äidillä syötiin sitten lisää, avattiin paketit ja, mikä tärkeintä, käytiin myös joulusaunassa. Äitini luona pöytään ei kannettu perinteisiä jouluruokia lainkaan, vaan ihan muuntyyppistä herkkuruokaa, ja täytyy sanoa, että hirven sisäfile ja palsternakkamuusi maistuivat meille paremmin kuin hyvin.
Before driving to my mum’s, we had a delicious Christmas lunch with M’s family. At my mother’s place, it was time for more food (naturally!) after which we went to sauna and opened the gifts. For me, the highlight of Christmas Eve is definitely the sauna. My mum hadn’t cooked any traditional Christmas foods but, instead, we ate a fancy dinner of elk tenderloin and mashed parsnip.
Aikuisiällä en ole enää erityisemmin osannut odottaa paketteja, onhan joulussa nykyään kyse muista jutuista. Ilmeisesti olin kuitenkin ollut kiltti, sillä lahjoja tuli enemmän kuin olin osannut odottaa. Kuusen alta löysin ainakin lahjakortteja, aidot hopeahelmet ja Georg Jensenin kynttilänjalan. Eilen oli ohjelmassa vielä veljenpoikieni synttärit, toivottavasti teilläkin on ollut ihanaa ja rakkaudentäyteinen joulu!
Ever since I grew up (not sure when that happened), I haven’t waited for the opening of the gifts that eagerly anymore. There’s so much more important things about Christmas now. But for my surprise, it seemed like I had been nice as I got quite many presents. Under the tree, there was my name on authentic silver pearls, numerous gift cards as well as a gorgeous Georg Jensen candleholder. Yesterday, it’s was time for my nephews’ birthday party, which was so much fun. I hope you had the loveliest Christmas, too!
