Wishing you all a cheerful Christmas! I, myself, spent the Christmas eve at a cottage with the family. All the luminous snowdrifts and an authentic, wood-heated sauna created a very traditional setting for the celebration. The food was tasty, little birds sang behind the window and the fireplace heated up the place. And there was nothing more I could have wished for.
Oikein tunnelmallista joulua kaikille! Itse vietin aaton perheeni kanssa mökillä, jossa hohtavan valkoiset luminietokset ja aito puusauna loivat upeat puitteet perinteiselle joulunvietolle. Ruoat olivat suussasulavia, talitintit lauloivat ikkunan takana ja takkatuli lämmitti. Enkä olisi enempää voinut toivoa.
In case you have read this post of mine, there’s a chance you might already know my enthusiasm about going to sauna. Sauna has always been an important Christmas tradition for us Finns, and we surely didn’t make an exception this year. Actually, I spent even a longer period of time in the sauna than usual, mainly because the frost and the hole in the ice for winter swimming made it possible to properly cool off between the sessions.
Mikäli olette lukeneet aikaisemmista postauksistani tämän, saatatte jo tietää palavasta intohimostani saunomiseen. Jouluaattona saunominen venyi ennätyslukemiin, kun löylyjen välissä oli mahdollisuus lumihangessa kierimisen lisäksi avannossa pulahtamiseen.
I myself ventured to take a dip in the ice-cold water as many as two times and, if it was up to me, would’ve earned an extra gift for the achievement. The dips were were quick but so refreshing, I’ll give you that.
Itse uskaltauduin kastautumaan jääkylmässä avannossa kokonaiset kaksi kertaa, ja olisin omasta mielestäni ansainnut ainakin yhden ekstralahjan siitä hyvästä. Pulahdukset olivat pikaisia, muta sitäkin virkistävämpiä. Voinko nyt sanoa, että olen heittänyt talviturkkini jo näin joulukuussa?
I can’t say I got that many gifts, and it’s not even important. The fleshy old guy brought some books, sweet treats and gift cards as well as some financial support for a new, even better object lens for the camera. To finish off the day at the country side, we packed our car and drove back to the city for the evening. As every year on the Christmas night, it’s quite impossible to put down a good book in order to get a good night’s sleep. So, it wasn’t exactly a surprise I slept pretty late in the afternoon yesterday (oops!).
Lahjoja en voi sanoa monta saaneeni, eikä se ole tärkeääkään. Joulupukki toi kirjojen, herkkujen ja lahjakorttien lisäksi hieman taloudellista tukea uuden, entistä paremman objektiivin hankintaan. Mökkeilyn päätteeksi pakkasimme auton ja ajoimme jouluyöksi takaisin kaupunkiin. Niin kuin jouluyönä aina, mukaansatempaavaa kirjaa ei vain malta laskea kädestä edes aamuyöstä, ja eilen tulikin siten nukuttua pitkälle iltapäivään (hups!).
